Field Fictions for Self-seeders (2024)

‘Field Fictions for Self-seeders’ is an interdisciplinary fieldwork walk on the theme of botanical self-seeding which occurs in cities, mostly unnoticed.

Using a series of more-or-less factual, poetic and imaginative texts and invitations, it encourages participants to explore and reflect upon the values of self-seeding to the urban biome and how urban environments affect self-seeding processes.

The walk has been performed with postgraduate student cohorts from the Schools of Geosciences and Moray House School of Education and Sport, University of Edinburgh, since October 2024. It has also been run as a reflective development session for teaching staff at the Enhancing Fieldwork Learning conference, Edinburgh 2025 and the Scottish Network for Geography, Earth and Environmental Science Educators, Glasgow 2026.
