you.are.here: New York City (2024)

you.are.here is a performative mapping project in which fragments of city streets are captured at a 1:1 scale through a slow, laborious working methods.

Working with old, abandoned maps, seemingly insignificant features and textures from the ground surface were incorporated onto the map’s surface, as well as fragments of passing conversation, rain, dust and the surface of the street.

you.are.here presents a different way of navigating and knowing the world; one which is direct and fragmentary, rather abstract and continuous. It positions mapping and knowing as a care-full engagement with the world.
